Each summer, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine hosts the Maine Lobster Ride & Roll, Maine ’s most scenic bike rides along winding country lanes and the breathtaking rockbound coast in gorgeous Midcoast Maine [view photos]. The ride features four marked routes from 16-100 miles, with fantastic ocean views, fresh ocean air, maps, support services, rest stops with food and water, and a fresh Maine lobster roll dinner. Lobster Riders also get collectable Lobster Ride socks!

On my “Top-ten-bike-rides-of-all-time” list...memory of the ride will be a haven to which I return during the cold winter months. I look forward to next year’s Lobster Ride.”
- Peter Rubinstein, first time Lobster Rider in 2005

Our favorites places to eat, Broad Arrow Tavern and Jameson Tavern, are within walking distance. Both feature local specialties like steamed lobster and New England clam chowder, fried Maine clams and fresh haddock, as well as steaks, pasta and salads. Quickly becoming another favorite is the Azure Cafe, a new-comer to town featuring an imaginative, tasty menu, upscale surroundings and a comfortable bar with outside seating.
Varied cuisines are well represented in town as well. Chinese, Japanese and Thai foods are available, and the Old World Gourmet can provide the perfect picnic lunch for your day trip. Be sure to check out their dinner restaurant Conundrum if you're a pasta and wine lover! Gritty McDuff's is the best place around for handcrafted brews and pub fare. Broad Arrow Tavern is also a favorite in Freeport.
Short Trips
Two miles south of Freeport is the coastal village of Yarmouth, home of one of Maine's great annual celebrations, the Yarmouth Clam Fest.
The City of Portland is a twenty-minute drive south, featuring historic "Old Port" for eclectic shopping and dining. Don't miss the Portland Museum of Art, Portland Performing Arts Center, the Center for Maine History, and Wadsworth-Longfellow House for a good dose of history and culture. Portland's AA baseball team, the Sea Dogs is a "sure hit" during the summer months, as is a boat ride to one of m
